The centuries old County in South-Central Maryland was created by order of the council in 1658. The County was named for the 3rd Lord Baltimore, Charles Calvert. The Lord lived in Maryland from the year 1661 until his return to England in 1684. Calvert was a Proprietor of the colony of Maryland until he lost his right to govern. Today the County pays homage to its rich heritage, all the while remaining grounded in the present, ensuring that Charles County is an area with a very bright tomorrow!
